케임브릿지 사전은 'foist something on someone'을 "to force someone to have or experience something they do not want(어떤 사람에게 그들이 원하지 않는 물건이나 경험을 강요하다)"라고 정의했다.

"I try not to foist my values on the children but it's hard(나는 내가 가진 가치들을 아이들에게 강요하지 않으려 하지만, 이는 어려운 일이다)."

콜린스 사전은 'foist on'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you say that someone foists something on you, or foists it upon you, you dislike the way that they force you to listen to it or experience it(어떤 사람이 무엇을 당신에게 foist 한다면, 그들이 당신으로 하여금 그것을 듣게 하거나 경험하게 하는 걸 당신이 싫어한다는 뜻이다)." 못마땅해하는(disapproval) 뉘앙스이다.

"The title for her novel was foisted on her by the publishers(그녀의 소설에 붙은 제목은 출판사 직원들에 의해 그녀에게 강요되었다)."
