케임브릿지 사전은 'gallantry'를 "polite and kind behaviour towards women, especially when in public(특히 사람들이 있는 데서 행해지는, 여성을 향한 예의 바르고 친절한 행동)"이라고 정의했다.

"He had gained a popular reputation for his gallantry towards women(그는 여성에 대한 친절한 행동으로 인기와 평판을 얻었다)."

"I'd like to think that gallantry isn't dead(나는 기사도가 죽지 않았다고 믿고 싶어요)."

콜린스 사전은 'gallantry'를 이렇게 설명했다. "Gallantry is kind, polite, and considerate behaviour towards other people, especially women(gallantry는 특히 타인, 여성에 대한 친절하고 예의 바르며, 사려 깊은 행동이다)." 격식을 차린(formal) 표현이다.
