케임브릿지 사전은 'stitch-up'을 "a situation in which someone is deliberately made to look guilty of doing something that they did not do(상대가 하지 않은 일에 대해 유죄인 것처럼 보이게 고의적으로 만들어진 상황)"라고 정의했다.

"a police stitch-up(경찰의 누명 덮어씌우기)"

콜린스 사전은 'stitch up'을 이렇게 설명했다. "To stitch someone up means to trick them so that they are put in a difficult or unpleasant situation, especially one where they are blamed for something they have not done(누구를 stitch up 하는 것은 그들을 속여서 어렵거나 불쾌한 상황, 특히 그들이 저지르지 않은 일로 비난받는 상황에 처하게 하는 것이다.)." 영국식이고 격식을 차리지 않은(informal) 표현이다.
