케임브릿지 사전은 'discombobulation'을 "the fact of being made to feel confused or uncomfortable by something(어떤 것에 의해 혼란스럽거나 불편하다고 느끼게 된 점)"이라고 정의했다.

"He showed his discombobulation by not being sure whether to sarcastically congratulate his rival or attack him(그는 그의 라이벌을 비꼬면서 축하해야 할지, 공격해야 할지 몰라 하며 당황한 모습을 보여 주었다)."

"We feel nostalgia for the past and discombobulation about the future(우리는 과거를 그리워하는 향수를 느끼며 미래에 대한 혼란스러움을 느낀다)."

콜린스 사전은 'disconbobulate'를 "to throw into confusion(혼란스럽게 하다)"이라고 설명했다.

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'discombobulate'를 "to confuse somebody and make them slightly anxious(상대를 혼란스럽게 하고 약간 불안하게 만들다)"라고 풀이했다.
