위에서 누르듯(pressing) 압박하는(pressing) 느낌이 드는 문제라면 단연코 가장 긴급하고 급박하고 가장 먼저 처리해야 할 일일 것이다.

그래서 'pressing'은 '긴급한, 급박한'이라는 뜻이다.

케임브릿지 사전은 'pressing'을 "urgent or needing to be dealt with immediately(긴급하거나 즉시 처리되어야 하는)"라고 정의했다.

"a pressing need for housing(주택 필요의 긴급함)"

"a pressing issue(긴급한 이슈)"

"The most pressing question is what do we do next?(가장 긴급한 질문은 이제 다음으로 무엇을 해야 하느냐는 것입니다)"

콜린스 사전은 'pressing'을 이렇게 설명했다. "A pressing problem, need, or issue has to be dealt with immediately(pressing한 문제, 필요, 또는 이슈 등은 즉시 처리되어야 하는 것들이다)."

"It is one of the most pressing problems facing this country(그것은 이 나라가 직면하고 있는, 가장 긴급함 문제들 중 하나다)."

"There is a pressing need for more funds(더 많은 자금이 급박하게 필요하다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'presing'을 "very important and urgent(가장 중요하고 긴급한)"라고 풀이했다.

"The safety of the hostages is a matter of pressing concern(인질들의 안전이 긴급하게 고려되는 문제입니다)."
