케임브릿지 사전은 'dismiss'를 "to decide that something or someone is not important and not worth considering(어떤 것 또는 사람이 중요하지 않고 고려할 가치가 없다고 결정하다)"이라고 정의했다.

"I think he'd dismissed me as an idiot within five minutes of meeting me(그는 나를 만난 지 5분 만에 바보라고 일축해 버린 것 같다)."

"Let's not just dismiss the idea before we've even thought about it(생각도 해 보기 전에 그 아이디어를 무시해 버리지는 맙시다)."
