케임브릿지 사전은 'flush'를 이렇게 정의했다. "When you flush, you become red in the face, especially as a result of strong emotions, heat, or alcohol(flush 한다면, 특히 강렬한 감정, 열, 또는 알콜의 결과로 얼굴이 빨개지는 것이다)."

"She flushed with pleasure as she accepted the prize(그녀는 상을 받으면서 기쁨으로 홍조를 띄었다)."

"The champagne had caused his face to flush(샴페인 때문에 그의 얼굴이 붉어졌다)."
