케임브릿지 사전은 'denial'을 "a statement that something is not true or does not exist(어떤 것이 사실이 아니거나 존재하지 않는다는 내용의 진술)"라고 정의했다.

"The CEO issued a denial of the report that she is about to resign(그 CEO는 자신이 사임할 거라는 보도를 부정했다)."

"Officials did not believe the runner's denial that he had taken drugs(임원들은 그 달리기 주자가 마약을 복용하지 않았다는 말을 믿지 않았다)."

"His denial of responsibility for the accident was unconvincing(그는 그 사건에 책임이 없다고 부정했지만 이는 믿기 어려웠다."

콜린스 사전은 'denial'을 이렇게 설명했다. "A denial of something is a statement that it is not true, does not exist, or did not happen(어떤 것에 대한 denial은 그것이 사실이 아니거나, 존재하지 않거나, 또는 일어나지 않았다는 진술이다)."
