케임브릿지 사전은 'in stitches'를 이렇게 정의했다. "If a joke or funny story has you in stitches, it makes you laugh a lot(농담이나 재미있는 이야기가 have you in stitches 한다면, 그것이 당신을 많이 웃게 하는 것이다)."

콜린스 사전은 'in stitches'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you are in stitches, you cannot stop laughing(당신이 in stitches 하다면, 웃음을 멈출 수 없는 것이다)." 인포멀(informal)한 표현이다.

"Here's a book that will have you in stitches(당신의 배꼽을 빠지게 할 책이 여기 있다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'in stitches'를 "laughing a lot(많이 웃는)"이라고 풀이했다.

"Dawson’s brand of humour had his audiences in stitches(도슨 특유의 유머 감각은 관객들을 빵 터지게 했다)."
