[영어 공부] obnoxious(아주 불쾌한, 몹시 기분 나쁜)

 

케임브릿지 사전은 'obnoxious'를 "very unpleasant or rude(아주 불쾌하거나 무례한)"라고 정의했다.

"Some of his colleagues say that he's loud and obnoxious(그의 동료 중 일부는 그가 목소리가 크고 아주 불쾌한 사람이라고 말한다)."

"When she's in a bad mood she's obnoxious to everyone(그녀가 기분이 좋지 않을 때 그녀는 모두에게 아주 불쾌하게 군다)."

콜린스 사전은 'obnoxious'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you describe someone as obnoxious, you think that they are very unpleasant(어떤 사람을 obnoxious라고 묘사한다면, 당신이 그들을 아주 불쾌하다고 여긴다는 뜻이다)." 아주 못마땅해하는(disapproval) 뉘앙스이다.

"One of the parents was a most obnoxious character. No-one liked him(부모들 중 한 명은 아주 기분 나쁜 인물이다. 아무도 그를 좋아하지 않았다)." 

"The people at my table were so obnoxious I simply had to change my seat(내 테이블에 앉은 사람들은 너무 불쾌해서 내 자리를 바꿔야 했다)." 

맥밀란 사전은 'obnoxious'를 "very rude, offensive, or unpleasant(아주 무례하거나, 모욕적이거나, 불쾌한)"라고 풀이했다.
