케임브릿지 사전은 'headlong'을 "with great speed or without thinking(엄청난 속도로, 또는 생각 없이)"이라고 정의했다.

"The car skidded and plunged headlong over the cliff(그 차는 미끄러져서 절벽 밑으로 곤두박질쳤다)."

"In the headlong rush to buy houses, many people got into debt(집을 구매하려고 성급하게 서둘다가 많은 사람들은 빚을 졌다)."

콜린스 사전은 'headlong'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you rush headlong into something, you do it quickly without thinking carefully about it(어떤 것에 headlong 하며 달려든다면, 그에 대해 주의 깊게 생각해 보지 않고 재빨리 하는 것이다)."

"Do not leap headlong into decisions(성급하게 결정을 내리지 마라)." 

"The country, they say, will inevitably now plunge headlong into decadence(그들 말로는 그 나라는 이제 타락의 길로 곤두박질칠 수밖에 없을 거란다)." 

맥밀란 사전은 'headlong'을 "happening or done very quickly and without careful thought(아주 재빨리, 그리고 깊이 생각해 보지 않고 일어나거나 행해지는)"라고 풀이했다.
