[영어 공부] afterthought((흔히 미리 세심히 계획한 것이 아니라) 나중에 생각한[덧붙인] 것)

 

케임브릿지 사전은 'afterthought'을 "an idea, thought, or plan that was not originally intended but is thought of at a later time(원래 처음부터 의도된 것이 아니라 나중에 생각해서 추가된 아이디어, 생각, 또는 계획)"이라고 정의했다.

"She only asked me to her party as an afterthought(그녀는 나중에 뒤늦게야 파티에 나를 초대했다)."

"The pillars seem to have been added to the entrance as an afterthought(그 기둥들은 뒤늦게 입구에 추가된 것처럼 보인다)."

콜린스 사전은 'afterthought'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you do or say something as an afterthought, you do or say it after something else as an addition, perhaps without careful thought(어떤 것을 afterthought으로 한다면, 또는 afterthought으로서 말한다면, 아마도 깊게 생각하지 않고 그것을 다른 것 이후에 덧붙여 하거나 말하는 것이다)."

"Almost as an afterthought he added that he missed her(거의 다 지나고 나서야 그는 그녀가 보고 싶었다고 덧붙였다)." 

맥밀란 사전은 'afterthought'을 "something that you think of and say after you have finished speaking(말하기를 끝내고 나서야 생각하고 말하는 것)"이라고 풀이했다.

"She added as an afterthought, ‘I liked him though.’(그녀는 뒤늦게 덧붙였다. '그가 마음에 들긴 했어.')"
