케임브릿지 사전은 'on the table'을 이렇게 정의했다. "If a plan or suggestion has been put/laid on the table, it has been made available for people to hear, read, or discuss(계획 또는 제안이 put/laid on the table 하다면, 사람들이 듣거나, 읽거나, 토의할 수 있게 이용 가능해진 것이다)."

콜린스 사전은 'on the table'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you put something on the table, you present it at a meeting for it to be discussed(어떤 것을 on the table에 올려 놓는다면, 그것을 토의하기 위해 회의에서 발표하는 것이다)."

"This is one of the best packages we've put on the table in years(이것은 우리가 수년간 제안한 것 중 최고의 패키지 중 하나이다)." 

"It means that all the options are at least on the table(모든 옵션들은 적어도 제안으로 올라와 있다는 뜻이다)." 

맥밀란 사전은 'on the table'을 이렇게 풀이했다. "if a proposal or offer is on the table, someone has suggested it officially and people are considering it(제안이나 제의가 on the table 하다면, 누군가 그것을 공식적으로 제안했고, 사람들이 그것을 고려 중이라는 뜻이다)"
