케임브릿지 사전은 'shake (hands) on sth'을 이렇게 정의했다. "If two people shake (hands) on something, they make an agreement by briefly joining hands and moving them slightly up and down(두 사람이 shakes (hands) on something을 한다면, 손을 맞잡고 위아래로 조금 흔들어 동의의 뜻을 나타내는 것이다)"

"It seems that we have a deal, so let's shake (hands) on it(거래가 성사된 것 같으니, 악수로 마무리하시죠)."

콜린스 사전은 'shake on it'이라는 인포멀(informal)한 표현을 "to shake hands in agreement, reconciliation, etc(동의, 화해 등의 의미에서 악수하다)"라고 설명했다.

맥밀란 사전은 'shake on it'을 "used for saying that you want to shake hands with someone in order to show that you both agree to something(어떤 사람과 당신이 어떤 것에 동의한다는 점을 나타내기 위해 상대와 악수를 하고 싶을 때 쓰는 말)"이라고 풀이했다.
