케임브릿지 사전은 'housekeeping'을 "used to refer to tasks that need to be done as a regular part of your work but are not the main purpose of your work(일의 정기적인 일부로서 해야 하지만, 일의 주요 목적은 아닌 과제들을 가리킬 때 쓰는 말)"라고 정의했다.

"The teachers' meeting deals mostly with housekeeping issues such as lunchtime supervision duties(교사 모임은 대체로 점심시간 감독 의무 등의 관리 업무 이슈를 다룬다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'housekeeping'을 "the activity of keeping things organized so that you can work more effectively(더욱 효과적으로 일할 수 있도록 일들을 관리하는 행위)"라고 설명했다.

롱맨 사전은 'houskeeping'을 "jobs that need to be done regularly to keep a system, organization etc working properly(체제, 기관 등이 제대로 작동하도록 유지하기 위해 해야 할 일들)"라고 풀이했다.
