케임브릿지 사전은 'height'를 이렇게 정의했다. "The height of also means an extreme example of(the height는 어떤 것의 극단적인 예를 의미한다)"

"the height of luxury/power/stupidity(사치/권력/멍청함의 절정)"

콜린스 사전은 'height'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you say that something is the height of a particular quality, you are emphasizing that it has that quality to the greatest degree possible(어떤 것이 특정한 자질의 height라고 말하면, 그것이 가능한 한 가장 큰 정도의 그 자질을 가지고 있다는 사실을 강조하는 것이다)."

"The hip-hugging black and white polka-dot dress was the height of fashion(엉덩이를 감싸는 흑백의 물방울무늬 드레스는 (당시) 패션의 최절정이었다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'height'를 "the time or level of greatest activity(가장 많은 활동의 시간 또는 정도)"라고 풀이했다.
