케임브릿지 사전은 'pointedly'를 'in a very obvious way, usually to express criticism or disapproval(대개는 비판이나 못마땅함을 표현하기 위해 아주 분명하게)"이라고 정의했다.

"He pointedly ignored her after the show(그는 쇼가 끝난 후 그녀를 보란듯이 무시했다)."

롱맨 사전은 'pointedly'를 "in a way that is deliberately meant to show that you are annoyed, bored, or disapprove of something(당신이 짜증이 났거나, 지루하거나, 무엇을 못마땅하게 여긴다는 사실을 고의적으로 보여 주는 방법으로)"이라고 설명했다.
