콜린스 사전은 'close to home'을 이렇게 정의했다. "if a remark is close to home, it makes people feel uncomfortable or upset because it is about a sensitive or very personal subject(어떤 발언이 close to home 하다면, 그것이 민감하거나 아주 개인적인 주제에 대한 것이기 때문에 사람들을 불편하거나 속상하게 만드는 것이다)"

"The message the film conveyed struck so hard and so close to home that it moved me to tears(이 영화가 가진 메시지가 강렬하게, 내 정곡을 찔렀고 그래서 나는 눈물을 흘렸다)."
