케임브릿지 사전은 'notional'을 "existing only as an idea, not as something real(실존하는 것이 아니라 관념으로만 존재하는)"이라고 정의했다.

"Almost everyone will have to pay a higher tax bill than the notional amount suggested by the Treasury Secretary(거의 모든 이들이 재무 장관이 제안한 개념상의 금액보다 더 많은 세금 고지서를 내야 할 것이다)."

콜린스 사전은 'notional'을 이렇게 설명했다. "Something that is notional exists only in theory or as a suggestion or idea, but not in reality(notional한 것은 이론상으로, 또는 제안이나 관념으로만 존재하고, 현실에 존재하지 않는 것이다)." 포멀(formal)한 표현이다.

"...the notional value of state assets(...국가 자산이 개념상 가진 가치)." 

맥밀란 사전은 'notional'을 "existing only as an idea, not as something real(실존하는 것이 아니라 관념으로만 존재하는)"이라고 풀이했다.
