케임브릿지 사전은 'veer'를 "to change direction(방향을 바꾸다)"이라고 정의했다.

"All of a sudden, the car veered off the road(갑자기 차는 도로를 벗어나 방향을 틀었다)."

"Moments before crashing, the jet was seen veering sharply to the right(충돌하기 직전, 제트기는 오른쪽으로 홱 방향을 트는 모습을 보였다)."

"Three men were feared dead last night after a helicopter veered off course into an oil platform(세 남자는 헬리콥터가 진로에서 벗어나 석유 굴착기로 방향을 바꾼 이후 사망한 게 아닌가 하는 우려가 있었다)."

"Our talk soon veered onto the subject of money(우리의 대화는 곧 돈이라는 주제로 방향을 틀었다)."

콜린스 사전은 'veer'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If something veers in a certain direction, it suddenly moves in that direction(어떤 것이 특정한 방향으로 veer한다면, 갑자기 그 방향으로 움직이는 것이다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'veer'를 "to suddenly move in a different direction(갑자기 다른 방향으로 움직이다)"이라고 풀이했다.

"The Volkswagen veered off the road and crashed into a fence(폭스바겐은 방향을 바꾸어서 울타리에 충돌했다)."
