[영어 공부] madcap(무모한, 무분별한)

 

케임브릿지 사전은 'madcap'을 "used to describe silly and funny behaviour or a plan that is very silly and funny and unlikely to succeed(바보스럽고 웃긴 행동이나 바보스럽고 웃기며 성공할 거 같지 않은 계획을 묘사하기 위해 쓰이는 말)"라고 정의했다.

"the madcap antics of the clowns(광대들의 무모한, 익살스러운 행동들)"

콜린스 사전은 'madcap'을 이렇게 설명했다. "A madcap plan or scheme is very foolish and not likely to succeed(madcap한 계획이나 책략은 아주 바보스럽고 성공할 것 같지 않은 것이다)." 인포멀(informal)한 표현이다.

"The politicians simply flitted from one madcap scheme to another(정치인들은 그저 이 무분별한 계획에서 저 무분별한 계획으로 옮겨 다녔을 뿐이다)." 

"His fast-paced novels are full of bizarre situations and madcap antics(빠르게 진행되는 그의 소설은 기이한 상황과 무모한, 익살스러운 행동들로 가득 찼다)." 

맥밀란 사전은 'madcap'을 "very silly(아주 바보스러운)"라고 풀이했다.
