케임브릿지 사전은 'aberration'을 "a temporary change from the typical or usual way of behaving(전형적이거나 흔히 하는 행동 방식의 일시적인 변화)"이라고 정의했다.

"I'm sorry I'm late - I had a mental aberration and forgot we had a meeting today(늦어서 죄송합니다. 정신이 이상해졌는지 오늘 회의가 있다는 걸 까먹었네요.)."

"In a moment of aberration, she agreed to go with him(순간의 일탈로 그녀는 그와 같이 가기로 했다)."

"The misconduct was an aberration from the norm for him(비행은 그에게 정상에서 벗어난 일탈 행위였다)."

콜린스 사전은 'aberration'을 이렇게 설명했다. "An aberration is an incident or way of behaving that is not typical(aberration은 사건이나 전형적이지 않은 행동 방식이다.)." 포멀(formal)한 표현이다.

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'aberration'을 "a fact, an action or a way of behaving that is not usual, and that may be unacceptable(흔하지 않고, 받아들여지지 않을 수도 있는 사실, 행위, 또는 행동 방식)"이라고 풀이했다.
