케임브릿지 사전은 'curious'를 "strange and unusual(기이하고 특이한)"이라고 정의했다.

"There was a curious-looking man standing outside(별나 보이는 남자가 바깥에 서 있었다)."

"A curious thing happened to me yesterday(어제 나에게 기이한 일이 일어났다)."

"It's curious (that) Billy hasn't phoned when he promised he would(빌리가 전화하겠다고 약속해 놓고 안 했다니 이상하다)."

콜린스 사전은 'curious'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you describe something as curious, you mean that it is unusual or difficult to understand(어떤 것을 curious하다고 표현한다면, 그것이 특이하거나 이해하기 어렵다는 뜻이다)."

"There is a curious thing about her writings in this period(이 시기에 그녀가 쓴 글은 특이하다)."
