케임브릿지 사전은 'lowbrow'를 "(of entertainment) not complicated or demanding much intelligence to be understood((오락이) 복잡하지 않거나 이해하기에 큰 지능을 요구하지 않는)"라고 정의했다.

"He regards the sort of books I read as very lowbrow(그는 내가 읽는 종류의 책들을 아주 저속하다고 생각한다)."

"I like a lowbrow action movie once in a while(나는 가끔 저속한 액션 영화를 좋아한다)."

콜린스 사전은 'lowbrow'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you say that something is lowbrow, you mean that it is easy to understand or appreciate rather than intellectual and is therefore perhaps inferior(어떤 것이 lowbrow라고 한다면, 그것이 지적이기보다는 이해하거나 감상하기 쉽고, 따라서 아마도 질이 낮다는 뜻이다)."

"His choice of subject matter has been regarded as lowbrow(그가 선택한 대화 주제는 교양 없는 것으로 여겨졌다)."

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'lowbrow'를 "​having no connection with or interest in serious artistic or cultural ideas(진지하게 예술적이거나 문화적인 아이디어와 연관 또는 관심이 없는)"라고 풀이했다.
