케임브릿지 사전은 'schmooze'를 "to talk informally with someone, especially in a way that is not sincere or to win some advantage for yourself(어떤 사람과 격식을 차리지 않고 이야기하다, 특히 진심이 아니거나 자신에게 이득을 얻기 위해 그렇게 하다)"라고 정의했다.

"He spent the entire evening schmoozing with the senator(그는 저녁 내내 상원의원들과 수다를 떨며 보냈다)."

콜린스 사전은 'schmooze'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you schmooze, you talk casually and socially with someone(schmooze한다면, 누군가와 편하게, 사교적으로 이야기하는 것이다)."
