케임브릿지 사전은 'predicament'를 "an unpleasant situation that is difficult to get out of(빠져나가기 어려운, 불쾌한 상황)"라고 정의했다.

"She is hoping to get a loan from her bank to help her out of her financial predicament(그녀는 경제적 곤경에서 빠져나가게 도와줄 대출을 은행에서 받을 수 있기를 희망하고 있다)."

"I'm in a bit of a predicament because I've accidentally accepted two invitations to dinner on the same night(나는 같은 날 밤에 두 곳의 저녁 식사 초대를 받아들여서 좀 곤경에 처했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'predicament'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you are in a predicament, you are in an unpleasant situation that is difficult to get out of(predicament에 처했다면, 빠져나오기 힘든 불쾌한 상황에 처한 것이다)."
