케임브릿지 사전은 'baggage'를 "the beliefs and feelings that influence how you think and behave(당신이 어떻게 생각하고 행동하는지에 영향을 끼치는 믿음과 감정들)"라고 정의했다.

"We all carry a lot of emotional baggage around with us(우리는 모두 감정적인 앙금을 많이 가지고 산다)."

콜린스 사전은 'baggage'를 이렇게 설명했다. "You can use baggage to refer to someone's emotional problems, fixed ideas, or prejudices(baggage는 어떤 사람의 감정적 문제, 고착된 생각, 또는 편견을 가리킨다)."

"How much emotional baggage is he bringing with him into the relationship?(도대체 그는 얼마나 많은 감정적 앙금을 가지고 연애를 하는 거야?)"
