케임브릿지 사전은 'foray'를 "a short period of time being involved in an activity that is different from and outside the range of a usual set of activities(일반적인 활동의 범위와 다르고 그 바깥에 있는 활동에 참여하는 짧은 시간의 기간)"라고 정의했다.

"She made a brief foray into acting before becoming a teacher(그녀는 교사가 되기 전에 연기를 해 보려는 짧은 시도를 했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'foray'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you make a foray into a new or unfamiliar type of activity, you start to become involved in it(새롭거나 익숙하지 않은 유형의 활동으로 foray를 한다면, 그것에 참여하기 시작하는 것이다)."
