케임브릿지 사전은 'acquiesce'를 "to accept or agree to something, often unwillingly(어떤 것을 대체로 마지못해 받아들이거나 합의하다)"라고 정의했다.

"Reluctantly, he acquiesced to/in the plans(마지못해 그는 그 계획을 받아들였다)."

콜린스 사전은 'acquiesce'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you acquiesce in something, you agree to do what someone wants or to accept what they do even though you may not agree with it(어떤 것을 acquiesce 한다면, 그것에 동의하지 않음에도 불구하고 다른 사람이 원하는 일을 하는 데 동의하거나 받아들이는 것이다)." 포멀(formal)한 표현이다.
