케임브릿지 사전은 'get/have your ducks in a row'를 "to be well prepared or well organized for something that is going to happen(앞으로 일어날 일을 위해 잘 준비하다 또는 잘 준비된)"이라고 정의했다.

"They should have had their ducks in a row beforehand, so they were ready to start the job when required(그들은 필요할 때 일을 시작할 수 있도록 미리 만반의 준비를 갖춰 놓아야 했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'get your ducks in a row'를 "to get everything properly organized and under control(모든 것을 적절히 준비하고 통제하에 두다)"이라고 설명했다.

"The government needs to get its ducks in a row(정부는 체계를 갖출 필요가 있다)."

메리암웹스터 사전은 'one's ducks in a row'를 "used figuratively in phrases like have one's ducks in a row, get one's ducks in a row, or put one's ducks in a row to describe being or becoming thoroughly organized('have one's ducks in a row', get one's ducks in a row' 또는 'put one's ducks in a row' 같은 표현 등에서 철저하게 준비되었거나 준비하는 상태를 가리키기 위해 비유적으로 쓰는 말)"라고 풀이했다.
