케임브릿지 사전은 'glut'을 "a supply of something that is much greater than can be sold or is needed or wanted(어떤 것이 팔리거나 필요하거나 원하는 것보다 훨씬 더 많이 공급되는 일)"라고 정의했다.

"The fall in demand for coffee could cause a glut on/in the market(커피의 수요가 하락하면 시장의 공급 과잉을 초래할 수 있다)."

"The current glut of graduates means that many of them will not be able to find jobs(현재 (대학) 졸업생의 과잉 공급은 상당수가 취업하지 못할 거라는 뜻이다)."

콜린스 사전은 'glut'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If there is a glut of something, there is so much of it that it cannot all be sold or used(어떤 것의 glut이 있다면, 그것이 전부 팔리거나 사용될 수 없을 정도로 많이 있는 것이다)."

"There's a glut of agricultural products in Western Europe(서유럽에는 농업 제품이 과잉이다)." 

"...a world oil glut(...전 세계적 석유 과잉)." 

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'glut'을 "a situation in which there is more of something than is needed or can be used(어떤 것이 필요하거나 사용될 수 있는 것보다 많은 상황)"라고 풀이했다.

"a glut of cheap imported goods on the market(시장의 값싼 수입 제품 과잉)"
