[영어 공부] (be another/a different) kettle of fish(사태; 고려해야 할 일 사항, 일, 문제) 

 

케임브릿지 사전은 'be another kittle of fish'를 "to be completely different from something or someone else that has been talked about(어떤 것 또는 다른 사람이 말하던 것과 완전히 다르다)"이라고 정의했다.

"Having knowledge is one thing but being able to communicate it to others is another kettle of fish(지식을 아는 것과 그것을 다른 이들에게 전달할 수 있는 것은 다른 문제다)."

콜린스 사전은 'a different kettle of fish'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you say that something is a different kettle of fish, you mean that it is very different from another related thing that you are talking about(어떤 것이 a different kettle of fish라고 말하면, 그것이 당신이 이야기하는, 관련된 다른 것과 아주 다르다는 뜻이다)." 인포멀(informal)한 표현이다.

"Playing for the reserve team is a totally different kettle of fish(예비 선수 팀을 위해 뛰는 것은 완전히 다른 문제다)." 

딕셔너리닷컴은 'kettle of fish'를 "a state of affairs; a matter under consideration(사태, 고려해야 할 문제)"이라고 풀이했다.

"The new proposal is quite a different kettle of fish from the last one(새로운 제안서는 이전 것과는 상당히 다른 문제다)."
