케임브릿지 사전은 'run a tight ship'을 "to control a business or other organization firmly and effectively(사업체나 다른 조직을 단호하고 효율적으로 통제하다)"라고 정의했다.

"Ruth runs a tight ship and has no time for shirkers(루스는 아주 효율적으로 이곳을 운영하고, 게으름뱅이에게 낭비할 시간이 없다)."

"The coach runs a very tight ship and has no patience for laziness(코치는 팀을 잘 훈련시키고, 게으름뱅이를 봐주지 않는다)."
