케임브릿지 사전은 'compendium'을 "a short but complete account of a particular subject, especially in the form of a book(특정 주제에 대해 짧지만 모든 것이 갖추어진 설명, 특히 책의 형태로 그렇게 된 것)"이라고 정의했다.

콜린스 사전은 'compendium'을 이렇게 설명했다. "A compendium is a short but detailed collection of information, usually in a book(compendium이란 대개 책의 행태로 된, 짧지만 구체적인 정보 모음집이다)."
