케임브릿지 사전은 'remission'을 "a period of time when an illness is less severe or is not affecting someone(병이 덜 심각하거나 영향을 끼치지 않는 시기)"이라고 정의했다.

"Her cancer has been in remission for several years(그녀의 암은 수년간 차도를 보여 왔다)."

콜린스 사전은 'remission'을 이렇게 설명했다. 'If someone who has had a serious disease such as cancer is in remission or if the disease is in remission, the disease has been controlled so that they are not as ill as they were(암 같은 심각한 병에 걸린 사람이 in remission 하다면, 또는 그 병이 in remission 하다면, 그 병이 통제되어 예전만큼 아프지 않은 것이다)."
