케임브릿지 사전은 'equitable'을 "treating everyone fairly and in the same way(모든 사람을 공정하고 똑같이 대하는)"라고 정의했다.

"an equitable tax system(공정한 조세 제도)"

콜린스 사전은 'equitable'을 이렇게 설명했다. "Something that is equitable is fair and reasonable in a way that gives equal treatment to everyone(equitable한 것은 모든 사람을 동등하게 대한다는 점에서 공정하고 타당한 것이다)."
