케임브릿지 사전은 'leapfrog'를 "to improve your position by going past other people quickly or by missing out some stages(다른 사람들을 제치거나 몇 단계를 뛰어넘어서 자신의 지위를 개선시키다)"라고 정의했다.

"They've leapfrogged from third to first place(그들은 3등에서 1등으로 뛰어넘었다)."

"She leapfrogged several older colleagues to get the manager's job(그녀는 그녀보다 나이가 많은 동료들 몇 명을 뛰어넘고 매니저 자리를 얻었다)."

콜린스 사전은 'leapfrog'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If one group of people leapfrogs into a particular position or leapfrogs someone else, they use the achievements of another person or group in order to make advances of their own(한 무리의 사람들이 다른 지위로 leapfrog하거나 다른 사람을 leapfrog한다면, 그들은 다른 사람 또는 무리의 성취를 자신에게 유리하게 사용하는 것이다)."
