콜린스 사전은 'top-shelf'를 이렇게 정의했다. "Top-shelf things or people are of a very high standard or quality."

"...top-shelf hotel resorts(...최고급 호텔 리조트)."

"The selection of bottled beverages is distinctly top-shelf(엄선된 병 음료는 분명히 최고급이다)." 

메리암웹스터 사전은 'top-shelf'를 "of the best quality(질이 최고로 좋은)"라고 설명했다.

"top-shelf products(최고급 제품들)"

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'top-shelf'를 "of the highest class(가장 높은 급의)"라고 풀이했다.

"It is a top-shelf law firm(그곳은 최고의 로펌이다)."
