케임브릿지 사전은 'bandy something around'를 "to mention something often, without considering it carefully(어떤 것을, 주의 깊게 고려하지 않고, 자주 언급하다)"라고 정의했다.

"Large figures were bandied around, but no money was ever paid(큰 액수가 사람들 입에 오르내렸지만, 실제로 어떤 돈도 지급되지 않았다)."

콜린스 사전은 'bandy about'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If someone's name or something such as an idea is bandied about or is bandied around, that person or that thing is discussed by many people in a casual way(어떤 사람의 이름이나 어떤 아이디어 같은 것이 bandied about 또는 bandied around 된다면, 그사람 또는 그것이 많은 사람들에게, 태평스럽게 논의되는 것이다)." 못마땅해하는(disapproval) 뉘앙스이다.

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'bandy around'를 이렇게 풀이했다. "if a name, a word, a story, etc., is bandied about/around, it is mentioned frequently by many people(이름, 단어, 이야기 등이 bandied about/around 된다면, 그것이 많은 사람들에 의해 자주 언급되는 것이다)"
