케임브릿지 사전은 'clincher'를 "something that helps someone make a decision(어떤 사람이 결정을 내리는 데 도움을 주는 것)"이라고 정의했다.

"It was the offer of a large discount on the TV that was the real clincher(결정적으로 그걸 사게 만든 건, TV를 크게 할인한다는 제안이었다)."

콜린스 사전은 'clincher'를 이렇게 설명했다. "A clincher is a fact or argument that finally proves something, settles a dispute, or helps someone achieve a victory(clincher는 마침내 어떤 점을 증명하거나, 분쟁을 해결하거나, 또는 어떤 사람이 승리를 쟁취하는 걸 돕는 사실 또는 논거이다)." 격식을 차리지 않은(informal) 표현이다.
