케임브릿지 사전은 'vagrancy'를 "the state of being or living like a vagrant (= a poor person without a home or a job, who moves from place to place)(부랑자(=이곳에서 저곳으로 돌아다니는, 집이나 일자리가 없는 가난한 사람)처럼 존재하는 또는 사는 상태)"라고 정의했다.

"Most European countries have abandoned laws that make vagrancy a crime(대체로 유럽 국가들은 부랑죄를 범죄로 만드는 법을 포기했다)."

"The City Council took steps to address problems associated with homelessness and vagrancy(시 의회는 노숙자와 부랑죄와 연관된 문제들을 다루기 위해 절차를 밟았다)."
