케임브릿지 사전은 'grind someone down'을 "to treat someone so badly for such a long time that they are no longer able to fight back(상대를 아주 오랜 기간 동안 형편없이 대해서 그들이 더 이상 저항해 싸울 수 없게 되다)"이라고 정의했다.
