케임브릿지 사전은 'pylon'을 "a tall metal structure to which wires carrying electricity are fixed so that they are safely held high above the ground(전기를 나르는 전선이 고정되어 땅보다 훨씬 위에서 안전하게 받치는, 큰 금속 구조물)"라고 정의했다.
