케임브릿지 사전은 'repatriate'를 "to send or bring someone, or sometimes money or other property, back to the country that he, she, or it came from(어떤 사람, 때로는 돈이나 다른 재산을, 그 사람이나 그것이 원래 출신인 나라로 보내거다 가져오다)"이라고 정의했다.

"The government repatriated him because he had no visa(정부는 그가 비자를 소유하지 않았기 때문에 본국으로 송환했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'repatriate'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If a country repatriates someone, it sends them back to their home country(어떤 나라가 누군가를 repatriate 한다면, 그들을 모국으로 돌려보내는 것이다)."

"It was not the policy of the government to repatriate genuine refugees(진짜 망명자들을 본국으로 송환하는 것은 그 나라의 정책이 아니다)."
