케임브릿지 사전은 'frippery'를 "a silly decoration or other unnecessary object(유치한 장식 또는 다른 불필요한 물건들)"라고 정의했다.

"fashion fripperies(패션 장신구)"

콜린스 사전은 'frippery'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you refer to something as frippery, you mean that it is silly or unnecessary, and only done or worn for pleasure(어떤 것을 frippery라고 표현한다면, 그것이 유치하거나, 불필요하며, 재미를 위해 행하거나 입는 것이라는 뜻이다)." 대체로 영국식(mainly British)이고 못마땅해하는(disapproval) 뉘앙스이다.

"...a sombre display, with no frills or frippery(...장식이 달리지 않은, 칙칙한 전시품)." 

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'frippery'를 "objects, decorations and other items that are considered unnecessary and expensive(불필요하고 비싸다고 여겨지는, 물건, 장신구, 그리고 기타 사물들)"라고 풀이했다.

"She never wore perfume, considering it to be mere frippery(그녀는 절대 향수를 뿌리지 않았는데, 그것을 사치품이라고 여기기 때문이었다)."
