케임브릿지 사전은 'heartthrob'을 "a famous man, often a singer or an actor, who is attractive to many women(대개 가수나 배우이며 많은 여성들에게 매력적인 유명한 남자)"이라고 정의했다.

콜린스 사전은 'heart-throb'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you describe someone, especially a man, as a heart-throb, you mean that they are physically very attractive, so that a lot of people fall in love with them(누군가, 특히 남자를, heart-throb이라고 묘사한다면, 그들이 신체적으로 무척 매력적이어서 많은 이들이 그들과 사랑에 빠진다는 뜻이다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'heart-throb'을 "a man who is very attractive, especially a young film actor or pop singer(아주 매력적인 남자, 특히 젊은 영화배우나 팝 가수)"라고 풀이했다.
