케임브릿지 사전은 'be the spitting image of sb'를 "to look extremely similar to someone(누구와 극히 비슷해 보이다)"이라고 정의했다.

"Josie is the spitting image of her granny at the same age(조시는 그 나이 때의 그녀의 할머니와 똑같이 생겼다)."

"The old man was the (dead) spit of Winston Churchill(그 노인은 윈스턴 처칠을 꼭 닮았다)."

메리암웹스터 사전은 'spitting image'를 "someone or something that looks very much like someone or something else(어떤 다른 사람 또는 어떤 것을 아주 닮은 사람 또는 사물)"라고 설명했다.

"Father then and son later are spitting images of each other(아버지와 아들은 서로를 꼭 빼닮았다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'spitting image'를 "someone who looks exactly like another person(꼭 다른 누군가처럼 보이는 어떤 사람)"이라고풀이했다.
