케임브릿지 사전은 'over the hill'을 "used for describing someone who is old and no longer useful or attractive(나이들고 더 이상 쓸모없거나 매력적이지 않은 사람을 묘사하기 위해 쓰이는 말)"라고 정의했다.

콜린스 사전은 'over tthe hill'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you say that someone is over the hill, you are saying rudely that they are old and no longer fit, attractive, or capable of doing useful work(누구가 over the hill 한다고 말한다면, 그들이 나이들었고 더 이상 건강하지 않거나, 매력적이지 않거나, 쓸모 있는 일을 하지 못한다고 무례하게 말하는 것이다)." 인포멀(informal)하고 못마땅해하는(disapproval) 뉘앙스이다.

"He doesn't take kindly to suggestions that he is over the hill(그는 한물갔다는 말을 좋게 받아들이지 않는다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'over the hill'을 "no longer young and therefore unable to do things that you could do in the past(더 이상 젊지 않고 따라서 과거에 할 수 있었던 일을 더 이상 할 수 없는)"라고 풀이했다.

"Judging from Saturday’s performance, she’s by no means over the hill yet(토요일의 공연으로 보건대, 그녀는 절대로 퇴물이 아니다)."
