케임브릿지 사전은 'skittish'를 "(of people and animals) nervous or easily frightened((사람과 동물이) 긴장하거나 쉽게 겁먹는)"라고 정의했다.

"My horse is very skittish, so I have to keep him away from traffic(내 말은 아주 겁이 많아서, 길이 막힐 때는 피해야 한다)."

"Investors are skittish about the impact of an economic downturn(투자자들은 경제 침체의 영향을 두려워한다)."

콜린스 사전은 'skittish'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you describe a person or animal as skittish, you mean they are easily made frightened or excited(사람이나 동물을 skittish 하다고 묘사한다면, 그들이 쉽게 겁을 먹거나 흥분한다는 뜻이다)."
