케임브릿지 사전은 'blather'를 "to talk for a long time in a silly or annoying way(바보 같거나 짜증 나게 오랫동안 이야기하다)"라고 정의했다.

"What on earth are you blathering on about?(도대체 무슨 얘기를 하는 거니?)"

"Your endless blather is so predictable(네 끝도 없는 헛소리는 너무나 예측 가능하다고)."

콜린스 사전은 'blather'를 이렇게 설명헀다. "If someone is blathering on about something, they are talking for a long time about something that you consider boring or unimportant(어떤 사람이 어떤 것에 blather 한다면, 그 사람이 당신이 지루하거나 중요하지 않다고 생각하는 것에 대해 길게 이야기한다는 뜻이다)."

"The old men blather on and on(노인들은 계속해서 지껄였다)."

"Stop blathering(그만 좀 지껄여)."

맥밀란 사전은 'blather'를 "to talk for a long time about something that is boring or not important(지루하거나 중요하지 않은 것에 대해 오랫동안 이야기하다)"라고 풀이했다.
